i think armfield's lyrical haunting writing did not work a second time and i am a little disappointed. i do think it was beautiful and it is interesting to explore grieving and family bond in a world that is ending but the book does not really deliver on its promised plot outside of that. the ending felt rushed as if armfield was remembering about the overarching plot she was supposed to write about. i wasn't a big fan of the multi pov.
the story has good moments which i enjoyed, the writing is delicate but humorous. i really like the suble horror, the uneasiness creeping up to you.
overall, liked it less than her previous work but also, i think when it comes to armfield's writing style, i do prefer the audiobook format the prose flows much better for me. i tend to get lost in the long paragraphes and i'll have to read a single sentence multiples time.
disappointed because the summary sold me something else but still liked it
