Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess: 5 Simple, Scientifically Proven Steps to Reduce Anxiety, Stress, and Toxic Thinking by Caroline Leaf
2.0
This was the most repetitive and long winded commercial for Dr. Leaf’s app.
The neurocycle steps Dr. Leaf shares are helpful but not in the context of this long winded book.
Step 1: Gather. First, you have to gather awareness. ...
Step 2: Reflect. Ask yourself the questions about whatever you gathered information on (looking for patterns, etc.)
Step 3: Write. Leaf talks of the science behind why this is important but ultimately it’s you getting the words in paper from your reflection. It’s powerful to write things out and it’s also a calming technique.
Step 4: Reconceptualize. Reflect on what you’ve written about your mental reflection (step 2).
Step 5: Active reach. After steps 1-4 come up with one action step (take slow breaths, coping technique, or change of pattern)
This can be used for eating patterns, harmful thoughts, patterns you want to change, learning to exercise more, sleep better, etc.
To my understanding Leaf has just taken cognitive behavior therapy and put a slightly different spin on it with an app you can now buy!
I’m going to read more books about CBT and will update with suggested titles below:
