I Am Not Jessica Chen by Ann Liang
5.0
so yours truly is going through a hard time academically right now, so i thought it was the perfect excuse to pick up this book.
and i’ve found it, my favourite ann liang book yet. i’ve been following ann since the release of if you could see the sun, and i’ve been a fan ever since.
i think a particular strong suit of ann’s is her character work, especially in her young adult books. her teenagers are so real and flawed, and, at the same time, loveable. throughout this book, i found myself relating to both jenna and jessica at different points. jenna goes through quite a lot of character development throughout the story, and loved that, while aaron, the li (and dare i say, one of my favourite love interests of ann’s), was very important in her journey, he was not the reason whyjenna ends up making the wish to be herself again .
also, all the moments with jenna’s parents were so sweet and heartfelt, and they actually made me tear up a little.
