The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White
4.25
This book's intention is to cut open, pull out the innards, and stitch the reader back together again. And that's exactly what it did to me—Silas' story did that to me. 'The Spirit Bares Its Teeth' is a masterpiece; it made me uncomfortable with its purposeful lack of over-explaining and under-describing of moments/elements in the storyline, allowing the reader's imagination to run wild, thinking about the worst possible outcome, only to find it’s far from the truth of the situation. I loved the writing, the characters, the setting—just everything about this book. <3 Despite not personally liking the ending, as it felt sudden and unfulfilling, I couldn’t put the book down. It was all I could think about! I'll definitely be reading Andrew Joseph White's previous and upcoming works. I also don’t read or like YA (I didn’t realise this was YA when I picked it up—a friend told me), but this doesn't read like typical YA, so I suggest giving this book a chance if you're avoiding it because of the YA label. :)
