The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd
5.0
I love books that I’m thinking about long after their finished. I’ve had this book on my in head TBR for a looong time so when I saw it go on sale I had to buy it – then book club picked it – so I was set. After what felt like a long time, but in reality was about a week, I finished my library book and was able to start this book. Now going into this book I knew it was long, and I quickly learned it took quite a bit of my brain power to read. This was not a lackadaisical read – this was intense – and I LOVED IT. I couldn’t wait until the end of the work day when I had some quite alone time to just sit and read this book. Each chapter was so good, and I wanted more.
While this book is fiction, many of the things that were discussed actually happened based on our understanding of artifacts. I loved how Sue Monk Kidd was able to carefully weave these facts throughout the book, but give them some flair.
I’ve always wondered if Jesus really did have a wife, and as the author points out in her authors note, it was customary at the time for a young man to take a wife at a certain age. This book felt like it could have actually been true, and I really enjoyed that.
I gave this book 5/5 stars and am looking forward to my next book by Sue Monk Kidd.
