"Transcendent Kingdom" has a very clear, focused, and poignant style which I loved. Gyasi's writing transcends different eras of the main character's (Gifty's) life and her perception of her family, religion, and career in science. Through descriptive anecdotes and sharp descriptions of these experiences, I thought the book was very striking but heartbreaking to read in some areas.
Moderate: Addiction, Death, Drug abuse, Drug use, Mental illness, and Suicide attempt
