I was given this book in exchange for my honest review by the author and their team through NetGalley. Previously I had read a book from this author and I really struggled to connect with the writing style, and unfortunately I’m finding it to be the case with this book as well.
I believe the author has a great ability to come up with some very interesting premises and characters, however their execution is what they lack in.
The story itself is very short (I finished it in a few hours) and I think it could have been longer. In saying that though, I don’t think I could have dealt with more of the same repeated notions throughout the book. For example, the fact that the male MC had killed the female MC’s brother was a concept brought up in 95% of the chapters and was totally unnecessary
My impression of this is that the author has ‘buffed up’ this book and filled it as much as possible to disguise the fact that a story arch is being spread out over three books. This is just supported by the cliffhanger ending that feels rushed and lacklustre.
This definitely wasn’t my favourite book, however I think that some readers will like the fast pace and chemistry between the two main characters. There is a spicy scene in this book so I would recommend for mature audiences.
