It Happened One Summer is the best romance book I’ve read so far this year! The characterisation of Brendan and Piper was perfect. I especially loved how the book celebrated Piper’s femininity. Often romance books can casually villainise it’s female characters for simply enjoying material aspects like clothes and their beauty, but this wasn’t the case for Bailey’s characterisation which was incredibly refreshing. I loved that this book incorporated so many tropes people look for like small town romance, grumpy x sunshine and enemies to lovers without it ever feeling like the book was just simply checking boxes for the sake of attracting readers. The romance between Brendan and Piper was so convincing and I loved every moment of reading this book. Highly highly recommend if you’re looking for a summer romance book that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy!
