Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
5.0
When I read Uprooted a few years back I think I told everyone I talked to about it for months afterward. I have a feeling the same will be true for this book, considering how many people I've talked it up to thus far. The writing and plotting were both outstanding, but I think what struck me most about this blending of folklore and historical fiction and traditional fairytales was how perfectly Naomi Novik managed moving between the many voices of this story. The craftsmanship involved was magnificent, never slipping into exposition but never allowing the reader to become confused about who was speaking or where they were in the story. I particularly loved how Irina, Wanda, and Miryam's stories grew more tightly interwoven and the many wonderful characters at their sides as they built families and lives for themselves worth fighting for. Dazzlingly good, as bright as a thousand silver coins turned to gold.
