This book was beautiful! It starts off light, Daniel and Scarlett being co-workers who are attracted to each other and decide that a work trip is a perfect way to give in to those feelings for a week and ‘get it out of their system’. But they both have darkness and sadness in their past, they’ve been hurt and closed off, struggling to open up again. I loved how much they talked to each other about what they expected from the week, no empty promises, and no presumptions on either side. They kept communicating about it all. They slowly fall deeper and open up to each other about their pasts, and it becomes clear how this has influenced them. When they return to Paris, I wanted to smack Daniel for his choice, even though I could totally understand. Luckily, his best friend Cole was there to do just that and help him understand why taking risks with your heart is what you have to do sometimes. It was good to give Daniel and Scarlett both a moment to process what has been happening and think about how they want to go forward, so that they’re both sure about the next step. This book is ultimately about hope, about finding happiness, about letting go of the past and focusing on the future. It was just so good!
