The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
5.0
After 804 pages and reading stretched over about a month I finally made it to the end. Honestly, the best book I’ve read this month. I adored this book, but it certainly was a challenge to get through. This was really my first high fantasy book in all honesty. I’ve avoided reading Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings because the nature of high fantasy is that they’re so dense. I was really excited about this one though when I got the short synopsis of “slow burn wlw romance with dragons” and that it’s a high fantasy written by a women. It is slower in the beginning just because there is so much you’re trying to familiarize yourself with and just get thrown into this mass of characters and plots. As it untangles it starts to move so much quicker, but it is a bit harder to read for longer durations at a time just because it’s so much content. I love that it’s a standalone and that it wrapped up wonderfully. I will be recommending this book to anyone that will listen to me for the next forever!
