Daily Rituals: How Artists Work by Mason Currey
5.0
Art is mysterious. There's no getting around that. Artists also tend to be alone. There's no getting around that either. So it was wonderful to read a book that simultaneously helps to show the underpinnings of artistic endeavor for the curious and to reassure fellow artists that they aren't as crazy or alone as they might think. "Daily Rituals" gives a snapshot of the creative routines of over 100 writers, painters, musicians, dancers, and more. As a writer myself, I love books like this, and was relieved to see that a good portion of the writers in this book only write for about 3-4 hours a day or only manage to write 1-3 pages a day. The ones who can work for days on end are the exception rather than the norm and helped me put my own writing output into perspective. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is an artist (particularly if you are a writer), but it is also a good book for those who are curious about the inner lives of creative people.
