The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain

5.0

This book was everything I was hoping for and more!!! I had several people suggest this book to me and I am SOOOOO glad I finally had a chance to read it! Give me time travel and anything in the 1960s-70s and I'm IN!!!

Time travel books can sometimes make my head spin a bit when I start thinking too hard about all the pieces and this was no exception, but this so well done!! As a mother and a wife, I could really empathize with the main character, Carly, in feeling torn on finding a way to save her unborn baby especially in the light of the fact that it is the last piece of her husband she has left after he leaves to go to Vietnam and is killed. Carly travels to 2001 for experimental surgery on her baby in utero but there are still a few complications after birth plus recovery time and the portals back to 1970 are fast approaching. Should she stay with her baby or go back to 1970 where her family is?

I cried several times as I could totally empathize as I think most women who have or want children can; plus all of the feelings that go with wanting your baby to be healthy. There were many OH MY GOSH moments that felt like big twists when things don't go exactly as planned. I don't want to give too much away because the whole last half of the book is dramatic and plays into the very end.

I can't recommend this book highly enough!!
