Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
5.0
This is the first of Adichie's novels that I've read, but it hooked me from the beginning. It's not just a novel; I feel like you can learn to be a better person from this book. Although Ifemelu and Obinze aren't perfect by any means, watching their story unravel and going along with them through all the barriers and hardships they face was very powerful. Our world is often a dark, scary place, and this book doesn't shy from that at all. So many important issues are touched on, and some may say it's too much, but what life is simple and straightforward? I don't see this being a frequent reread because of the density, but I fully expect to think of this book often in the future.
