A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher

4.0

'Cordelia had no experience with demons, but she was certain that they could not be as bad as her mother.'

A dark fairytale with an evil sorceress and the demure daughter she can control like a puppet. Cordelia finds help fighting her mother and her marriage schemes in a group who are quirky and brave and funny. Kingfisher is so good at bringing characters together and making them feel like a cozy family, even amidst the murder and chaos. It's a beautiful kind of magic.

'Cordelia sat very still, the thought hanging inside her head like a bedsheet on a line. My mother is a sorcerer.'
