The Boy, The Bird and The Coffin Maker by Matilda Woods
I really enjoyed reading this book. The writing, both voice and story, are reminiscent of Gabriel García Márquez (at least, the few short stories I have read by him). It's a slow, beautiful burn that may lose readers who require more fast-paced action.
The only aspect of that book that I didn't like was the fat-shaming of the mayor. He's a terrible person, acting out of greed and self-interest. At times, his size was synonymous with those negative traits. If the author had made those two things more distinct from one another rather than mixing the two, I would have loved the book a lot more.
