How to convey the experience of life under a dictatorship, where ordinary life rolls on but a house in your neighbourhood could be a torture centre, a schoolfriend's father might be an intelligence officer, you may witness someone being disappeared on your street? Wimmer attempts this interweaving history, fiction and pop cultural references. A brave and striking novel. There were moments when the use of The Twilight Zone or The Avengers didn't quite hold up, but overall a powerful experience to read.
