Imperceptibly becomes one of the saddest things I've read. Lots of blockage, awkwardness and hiccups, but there's sentences that convince you, as you're reading them, that Fitzgerald is still as powerful as writers get. You cannot get much closer to a writer's vision of their own demise than this.
