Like every other Ali Hazelwood book this is so trope-dependent (not that there's anything wrong with that) and feels pandering in many of the references. I can't find anything about how old Hazelwood is but I'm going to assume she's around my age otherwise there wouldn't be nearly as many mentioned about Twilight - don't get me wrong, I will stand by my love for those movies. It just feels like a lazy attempt to bond with readers.
Also, it peeves me, someone on the aro/ace spectrum, that the one character who also belongs on that spectrum doesn't get to proclaim it. I get the circumstances and whatever but, still, I wish the character got the chance to make it known.
