The One Who Got Away by Caroline Overington

4.0

Carolyn Overington's The One Who Got Away had me intrigued from the beginning. A quick and easy read that is well paced and filled with interesting characters - which could have been more thoroughly fleshed out, but in the end, we know all we need to know. Surely, the mark of a great writer? I enjoyed the twists and turns, the multiple viewpoints, the social commentary regarding justice and the money/power question. And the conclusion! Nicely explained with a minimum of fuss and making perfect, obvious-after-the-fact sense.
Some Goodreads reviews question Ms Overington's setting of this story in the US... since when does an author have to restrict their story locations to their own country? We would never have heard of Middle Earth if that was some sort of literary law! Thank goodness it is not.
