The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie
5.0
Rarely has a book left me so spellbound as to what I wanted to say about it. The book doesn't have much going on in terms of plot. In fact, it pans out as a setup for the sequels. However, the characters couldn't have been more vibrant, engaging, and brilliantly cheer-worthy.
There isn't one character I can name and say that they weren't fleshed out well. Hell, they deserve to be called people, dammit. Logen, Luthar, and Glokta have special places in my heart, however. I should hate them as any sane person would, but I'd read anything featuring them, even if it's a journey to the local supermarket. This, to me, is a testament to Abercrombie's skill, one I surely envy. A hard recommend!
