Verity by Colleen Hoover

First off, I didn't even know romance thriller was a genre. I had heard about this book a few years ago and put it on my TBR, and then Colleen's newer book, It Ends With Us, was getting more and more buzz AND both of these books came up in a FB thread where people were listing the most disturbing book they have ever read (so of course I decided to go back and pick this one up). I. COULDN'T. PUT. THIS. DOWN. Major trigger warning though - physical abuse, attempted abortion, manipulation, narcissism, overall toxic home environment, infidelity. I ended up googling things I could never have thought up on my own - didn't know it was even a thing (in utero disfigurement? whaaa?). I kept trying to figure out where this story was going, and had a healthy distrust of Jeremy's character, who seems like an out and out great guy, dad, husband, etc. I mean, too good to be true, right? He has his own character flaws but this storyline took a turn I didn't see coming at all. Also, heads up on gratuitous sex scenes and even Lowen, the ghostwriting main character, gets tired of reading about it, haha. So, I won't ruin the storyline here for you, because honestly, as twisted as this story was, I absolutely inhaled it and that is the sign of a REALLY good book. Good as in not-put-downable and high drama as opposed to happy, heartwarming subject matter. Colleen's writing, dialogue, plotline - all of it was so well done. I've ordered It Ends With Us and can't wait to start it. I have a new author to add to my favorites list!
