Anytime I have to drag myself back to a book to finish reading it and skim to get the end, I know it’s gonna be a 3 star. This one just wasn’t hitting the spot for me and it’s entirely due to Reuben.

Reuben is honestly so frustrating. I liked him at the beginning, he is witty with a dry and self-deprecating sense of humor that I can get behind. But he is so wishy washy, woe is me, I’m a prisoner yada yada. Vo’ak’s people didn’t kidnap him, they didn’t transport him to their planet, and they don’t have the means to get him back (presumably). Vo’ak did purchase him because that is this alien species culture, and he had very valid reasons for doing so. I get he’s mad about that but damn give it a rest.

Vo’ak carried this whole book on his back, this male must be stacked if his back is not hurting. The patience this male has with Reuben, I would have tapped out already, I’m not going to lie.

I will continue the series, I’m intrigued. But this one did not do it for me.
