Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot by Mikki Kendall

4.0

Hood Feminism is an impassioned and straight-talking address towards mainstream feminism and in particular their failings in terms of representing the rights of marginalised women in favour of the needs of privileged, middle-class white women. Kendall is very structured and unabridged in her argument. She details exactly what constitutes a feminist issue and how these issues are more likely to affect disadvantaged groups of women. She also discusses many of her personal experiences that give weight to her very pressing argument. I at times had issues with the sentence structure and felt like the paragraph long sentences could have been condensed into more concise simplistic sentences, conducive to a more resounding effect but the relevancy and rigour of her general argument more than compensates for this.
