A Palace in the Old Village by Tahar Ben Jelloun

4.0

This was a very interesting read. Where is home for an immigrant? Is it France where a man has lived for forty years, or is his home still in Morocco. His children have grown and been raised in France, so a cultural and generational misunderstanding is straining their familial ties. A man unwilling to change, dreams of his family living together under one roof. So he plunges his retirement savings in building his palace in the old village. Is that the solution, a home to bridge the divide?
