The Strange by Nathan Ballingrud
3.0
This was an interesting read, and I’m left with a sense of wanting. I wanted more from this book. I don’t feel like I was ever really sucked into the story like I prefer. I felt like I was an outsider looking in on this one, versus being a part of the story. I usually like to read to escape, and you’d think with a book set on Mars I would be able to. The writing wasn’t bad per say, it just didn’t quite work for me fully. However, the story was entertaining and I really wanted to know what was going on with Anabelle. So I was invested, just not engage. The science fiction elements were not really what I was expecting either. I think that I might have suffered because I was comparing this to another author the whole time. One who writes space books with so much joy and engagement, so I had high expectations.
