We Are Okay by Nina LaCour

5.0

This book really embodies what it means to present teenagers with a story as complex as they are. At different times in my life I have felt like both Mabel and Marin, and the emotional nature of both characters really ring true to me. The threads of grief, loss of innocence, and loneliness spread throughout in an intricate, interlocking way, and the core message of accepting love when we feel at our lowest resounds throughout the story and after you put the book down. Definitely my new favorite YA read, even with its dark and hopeless parts.
