Odes to Lithium by Shira Erlichman

challenging dark reflective medium-paced

3.5

This poetry collection was difficult for me to read, partly because the subject matter is about a difficult time in the author's life, and partly because many of the poems are written conveying how the author felt and what her mental state was during this time. I think that the author writing about her relationship with her meds is super creative, interesting, and powerful. I am glad this colelction exists and I am glad that I read it. I hope it can inspire other people use art to process or tell the story of their mental health. For me, I couldn't relate to most poems or really understand what they were about, so it was a good challenge! I think the collection is well written and coherent, just not in a way that is very compatible with who I am as a reader and my life experience. I  would recommend this collection to people who are experienced with poetry and who are specifically looking to read poetry about the experience of struggling with mental health, specifically bipolar.
