Hopeless Magic by Rachel Higginson

5.0

I have never read a character who stomps their foot as much as Eden has. The only thing I like about her character, was the power she has and how important she is. I found her to complain and whine way to much. And I don't think I've ever rolled my eyes so many time.

Hopeless Magic was an easy read. It captured my interest from the start, until I knew for certain what the ending was.

I realize about 30% into the book, that I didn't want Eden to love Kiran. Sure he's this super hot guy, but I just wasn't buying there instant love. Maybe it's because this instant love most books have is getting old? All I do know is that Jericho is growing on me and I WISH she would have chosen him in the first place.

Im so glad she is not head I've heals for Kiran anymore. I hate the events that lead to it though. But! Things can only get better right?
Yeah.

I love all characters except Eden. Well there are some things about her I like other than her power, but every other character I've really enjoyed.

Avalon, Eden's twin brother is this badass leader. And I love their connection they share.

Amory, the loving, caring, respectable grandfather. I like that his character showed emotion; that he actually cares about those around him.

I knew it was coming, from all the hints he was dropping that he would one day die soon. But gosh, I'm going to miss having him around. He was a nice buffer in the resistance.

Jericho is best friends with Avalon, and we don't know to much about him, but I instantly like him better than Kiran. He makes his feeling clear to Eden twice, and I'm holding breathe, hoping she will choose him. But when it comes to a love life, Eden is just hopeless. Gah!

Finally, Adrian. His appearance really is perfect. He's got the blond hair, blue eyes, an accent, oh plus he's a crowned prince. He also showed a kinder side to him in India when he helped the village children. So other than that... I'm just not sold. This is unusual for me. Because USUALLY the first guy a character falls for, I instantly root for them. Every other guy to try and interfere is seen as the enemy in my eyes. Yet here I am thanking god the author changed things up.

*Spoiler*

Adrian royally messed things up. What made him think Eden would be okay with him trading her brother for her? And all her friends being arrested after a battle?! Oh and to top it off, Amory is killed in said battle!
I started wondering if Adrian's love was real. I'm not saying its not, because some of things he's said we're sweet and sound truthful. Yet I have doubts. Did he love her and the added immortality once married was a bonus or the other way around?
I guess all that's happened counts as pain, so now she just needs to be strong and fight. Which sucks, because the author left her all alone in search for her parents. I was hoping Jericho would tag along, but that would be to easy.
Sigh....

I enjoy reading this series. I love the magic, and I really love reading about resistance against a higher power.
