The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West

5.0

This is my first 5-star review since I finished Illuminae back in May, wow. But, this one really filled a void for me and I couldn't be happier about the outcome.

Gosh, this year started so well for me. I was half way to my reading goal in March and I was picking books up one day, finishing them the next, and starting all over again. And then, for some reason, around May I just smacked into this reading slump. I picked this up looking for something quick, cute, and enjoyable and I got so much more!

The Fill-In Boyfriend is about our main character Gia who gets dumped by her boyfriend in the parking lot of her high school prom. She is devastated, as this is the night she was to prove to her friends that her older boyfriend from UCLA truly existed. In a last minute attempt to prove herself not to be a liar, she begs a stranger in the parking lot to be her "fill-in boyfriend" and to go along as if he is Bradley, Gia's ex.

Chaos ensues, and lies pile on top of one another, becoming too much to remember. Gia's story begins cracking and she must find a way to keep her facade going. Her friends begin to doubt her, family drama begins piling on and Gia must convince herself she is who she believes herself to be. All while she can't get mystery boy off her mind.

Gia: I enjoyed Gia's character a lot. I really related to her with the way she felt around her friends. I've been in similar situations recently where I have lost a couple of friends after drifting apart from them (life after high school isn't all it's made to be) and I truly understood how Gia felt. I honestly teared up a few times. I really felt for Gia, her character is very sweet, and kind and she just finds herself in a bad situation.

Fill-In Bradley Phew. The amount of anticipation that I felt waiting to learn this boy's name was silly. He is so swoon worthy. I will not spoil his name because you must do the work yourself to learn it! He is the poster child of a gentlemen and I couldn't believe how hard I was rooting for him and Gia to find each other again and make things work.

Fill-In Bradley's Sister I would use her name but I feel it could be a little bit of a spoiler. I loved her!!!! She reminded me of Audrey in MTV's Scream and she was such a witty, lovable girl and she really added a lot to the story.

Overall, The Fill In Boyfriend had just the right amount of love, drama, heartbreak, and laughs to make it the perfect pick me up for any one in a reading slump or if you're just looking for your next favorite romance. Either way, this should defiantly move up your TBR shelves, as it's found a special place on my favorite shelf.
