Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun by Guillermo del Toro, Cornelia Funke
5.0
One of the most beautiful, heartfelt stories I have ever read! A blend of the surreal and the real. An amalgamation of fairy tale and the most cruel reality of war and Man's hunger for power. Humanity at its nadir is elevated by the highest altruism and valor of those who dare to choose -- for "In our choices lie our fate" (Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun).
I had seen the movie, "The Pan's Labyrinth," years ago with a friend from college, and I loved it! Unbeknownst to me, the film gave birth to this book in 2019, so to my surprise, I saw the book on a shelf at Barnes & Nobles in one of my weekly trips to the bookstore.
The book follows faithfully the nearly equally amazing film (also highly recommended); nevertheless, the book is spellbinding!!
I would say watch the movie and read the book in any order you like.
One does not diminish the other. They complement each other. And that is something I rarely, if ever, have said about a movie in relation to a book I love.
