Under Her Care by Lucinda Berry

5.0

So this book was told through three different point of views: Casey, Genevieve, and a then perspective. I have to admit that reading the then perspectives were really different from the rest of the novel, and they added an interesting element to the overall story. I enjoyed this book and found myself really enthralled by the story. I mean the town is so ready to assert that Mason killed this woman, because it's easy... but his mom argues his innocence. Casey is brought in to evaluate him, and even she begins to question things about Mason. Genevieve's character is portrayed as this devoted mother who will do anything for her son, but her daughter tells a different story about her. Once Samantha comes into the narrative you really start to question just about everything.
I have to admit that I did not see the end of this one coming. The author really gave some twists and turns. I suspected a few things which turned out to be true and I was still blown away. I loved that the author provided a why for things happening. I hate when I get a thriller but don't know the why so this was a lovely shift. I think this book really spoke to some dark elements and uncovering family secrets. I think Casey was an interesting character because she had the ability to relate to Geneieve but the two women end  up being vastly different from one another. I honestly think that the reasons in this book are what make it so intriguing, because who would do something like that.
