Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari

2.0

Yikes! I have a lot of issues with this book, the main one being the writer’s tendency to take “impartiality” to an extent that’s borderline disrespectful when discussing certain anthropological subjects. Additionally, from studying archaeology it bothered me a bit that he didn’t mention Leakey-Replacement Theory for human expansion out of Africa, given that it was and is the most widely accepted theory when the book was written. There’s only three main theories, and you’ve already written a 500 page book, you have space for one more. A lot of his writing is also presented in a way that’s supposed to make you think it’s unbiased, but so many of his takes on human society have strong die-hard capitalist undertones. Anyways, maybe this was a bit mean, but this book bothered me. Definitely the most Mid piece of literature I’ve read.
