The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston
5.0
"Because if there was one thing more powerful than death itself, it was true, undeniable love."
I loved this book. I loved it. I sat with it for days. I thought about it so often after I finished it. I still think about it. I honestly don't know that I will ever not think about it. I love the way Ashley Poston writes, she makes the story and her characters engaging and relatable. I mean how perfect is a romance author who doesn't believe in romance! But it wasn't just that. It was the way you were drawn into the story from the outset. It was the fact that even though you read the summary, every single moment was shocking and heartbreaking. You knew it was going to happen. And yet, it was so not what you wanted or anticpated. I feel like this book broke me and put me together so many different times.
It made me love all the characters in the story and I was invested in the end of the story. I cannot tell you the number of times I screamed at the book for not doing what I wanted! I needed everything to be one way only, and I spent the entire book second guesssing myself. The story handles some tough emotions, and it tackles grief so beautifully. Florence experiences all these emotions that when you've lost someone you feel also. Poston manages to somehow encapsulate all the grief and healing in these moving moments that have you ugly sobbing into your pillow. But at the heart it is a romance. Florence learns to love herself again; in the most amazing ways. She learns to be open to help and love from others. It truly is a beautiful story. Basically what I'm saying is... go read this book if you haven't.
