I can't believe I'm 26 years old and I'm just now reading this for the first time. I've heard a lot of people say they had to read this in high school but that wasn't the case for me. But I do believe this is an important book and it should be read in every school, and it should be analyzed and discussed, not just glossed over like they do with other great, impactful works like To Kill a Mockingbird and Their Eyes Were Watching God (both books I did have to read in school).
The parallels between this book and the world today is actually terrifying. I've heard so many times that we should be grateful and we shouldn't complain or waste anything "because the soldiers have it worse than you do" and how they're risking their lives for our freedom. The erasure of history hit me hard, though. I'm watching that take place in my country today and it's horrifying.
The scariest part of this book is the fact that it's so close to reality that it seems as if some people used it as a guideline instead of the warning and think-piece it is. I can see perfectly well why this is George Orwell's most popular book.
