The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
5.0
The first book that’s really scared me in a while! The descriptive writing really pulls you into this one and creeps you the heck out.

I really appreciated how the home invasion story stretched beyond just using violence to be shocking and layered in an interesting storyline of a huge ethical and moral dilemma the family is faced with. This horror novel, while fairly short, was complex and will stick with me!
My only complaints are I wish we would’ve gotten a little more time to grieve the loss of one of the characters with the other characters. I know it’s a survival situation so they’re just focused on escaping but it’s a pretty major loss so it would’ve been nice to explore that more. Also, while I can appreciate an ambiguous ending, I was left wanting a little more for a nearly 300 page book. I think the ambiguous ending would’ve been stronger if this were a short story or shorter novella.
