Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
Fuuuuuuck. This was EVEN better on reread.
Over all I disliked Chaol way less on this reread. But I forgot how good this character arc was. Ugh. chills.
******** ORIGINAL REVIEW **********
Technically I'm giving this 4.5 stars but I'm rounding up.
Wow, I loved this so much more than I thought I would. Chaol has been one of my least favorite characters throughout this series. And I just didn't care about Nesryn. So I really wasn't looking forward to an entire book about those two. But this was so good!
What I liked:
1. Yrene was my favorite character. She's the female character I've been waiting for. She's strong and sassy without being over the top. She has real fears and weaknesses. She felt so realistic and relatable.
2. Sartaq was a close second for my favorite character once we got to the ruk mountains. I nearly screamed when I thought we was killed by the those damn spiders.
3. The romance between Chaol and Yrene was flipping precious. I was SO glad when Chaol didn't end up with Nesryn. And by half way through the book I didn't hate Chaol anymore! Never thought I'd see the day haha.
What I didn't Like:
1. I still don't care about Nesryn. I don't know what it is about her character. She's just so... boring.
2. This is something I come to expect in Maas' books so it was a huge surprise, but it's a bookish pet peeve. I hate how often people have unspoken conversations. Like I've never gotten that kind of detail from a look someone has given. Nonetheless from people I've known for all of days or weeks... And it happens constantly in this book. This is the main reason I docked a half star. By 3/4 of the way through it was starting to get annoying.
