MY HEART. This was absolutely magnificent.
Jordan Castillo Price's writing (and imagination) just keeps getting better and better and I managed to utterly devour this twelth book: it's so addicting, so lovely, so funny, so romantic, so creepy, so "OH MY GOD, WHAT IS HAPPENING".
Victor and Jacob absolutely outdid themselves in this one: their relationship has grown so much in the last few books and seeing them finally reach their wedding day, albeit stressed out and freaked out about the revelation at the end of "Bitter Pill", was priceless. I'm not sure what I was expecting from their wedding and all the planning that a wedding entails, but it definitely was not what we got: weirdly, Victor's the one that's more put together and responsible about everything, and I totally loved that. We got to see his more adult, mature side and his more romantic, mushy one too. Jacob, on the other hand, was a bit of a mess, a delightfully stubborn, hard-ass one at that. I loved seeing that side of him so much.
I also absolutely loved the setting: again, I was pretty sure those two were going to elope or maybe have a quiet, two-person wedding at city hall, but instead we got a traditional, weirdly romantic church wedding in Jacob's hometown. Surprising for sure, but in hindsight, 100% perfect for them and their journey. I must admit: I cried at the end. Their vow exchange was *quiet sobbing*
I also ADORED the sheer amount of Marks this novel had: all the petty bickering, the over-the-top bullheadedness and self-righteousness they all share, Barbara and Jacob trying to out-stubborn the other, were absolutely PRICELESS. Victor's commentary made me cackle out loud the whole time. I'ne never laughed more.
I also adored the plot: the mystery was riveting and original and exciting, and I cannot wait for the next book. I'm so damn curious to discover what will happen.
