This was a pretty fun (albeit slightly violent at times) holiday novel about an oft-forgotten ancient figure (Krampus) and his plight to rid the world of Santa and his blasphemous ways. Krampus has certainly gained notoriety in recent years, and I've had this novel on the ole TBR for a while now due to the artwork inside from author/artist Brom, and I finally chose to dive in as it was a pick from a book club I joined and I'm really glad I did!
I did not know much about Krampus going into this read, but I knew enough to be dangerous. The really nice thing about the story is that you don't need to have a deep understanding of Krampus or Norse mythology to dive in, as Brom does a great job of explaining characters as you go along and even included a great afterword to explain some of the characters in a bit more detail for you.
The story progressed a bit slowly at times, but the overall progression was pretty steady throughout. The characters were all pretty typical small-town WV folks who were a bit rough around the edges, but good at heart - except for the bad guys. They sucked. The characters all had great "life" to them and it was easy to get invested in them at times.
I liked the mythology and the battles between God, the gods, and all that as well, and since I'm a big sucker for mythology and ancient beings, those aspects of the story were really interesting to read and really added to my enjoyment of the story for sure.
I really enjoyed this read and need to slip in a few more Brom novels after this now!
