The last book in a series can make and break an entire series and therefore it took me a while to get to this book. But today felt like the perfect day to find out how things would end for our spoken mage and I wasn't disappointed.

Just like in the previous books, this book once again took us to parts of the world we hadn't seen before. In this case Elena and her yearmates visited the neighbouring kingdoms and we got explained where the conflict and war originated and what it was actually about. We also saw some new ways of dealing with the gift of being a mage and common born people.

As I had already hoped there was a lot of politics in this book and I loved that. It was a pity that Elena couldn't attend everything, so we didn't get first hand information all the time and sometimes had to rely on reports. But the politics we got to see was really nice and layered, with different sides and point of views and justification for a lot of things that were done.

And, last but not least, there was a lot of Lukas in this book, probably more than in the previous three books, and I loved that. I also loved the threat to their relationship and the tension that came with it. It somehow made all their encounters and stolen kisses a little more intense.

At the end of the book all the different storylines and pieces of the puzzle came together quite nicely and Elena's story really felt wrapped up, even though there is more than enough left to explore in this world. If the author returns, I will certainly return with her.
