I wouldn't necessarily call Our Winter Monster a horror novel - while there is a monster and there are some horrific moments in the book, this is truly a story of a relationship that has broken apart after a "bad date" that tore a rift through their once rose colored world.
The main characters, while actively trying to determine the mystery of a monster that is seemingly terrorizing them through the snow, are also working through the problems of their relationship, their trauma, and the communication they've avoided since their last traumatic event.
It was atmospheric, emotional, and curious - a quick and easy read that, even when answers to mysteries were revealed, kept me intrigued enough to continue reading through to the end.
