The sentences can be very dense in this Shirley Jackson novel, which I noticed in The Road Through The Wall, too, and caused me to take so long to read this book. I found Hangsaman to be incredibly haunting and, at times, scary. The synopsis on the back of the book doesn't really capture what the story is about.
