Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas

2.5

This book feels a lot more like a loveletter to a very particular time in someone's life rebranded into a retelling of Peter Pan. The story has so much potential and just falls short. Often, I found myself wondering if the author only had the start and the ending planned and just rambled for the other 200 pages to make it a book.

What did I like? It's Peter Pan, of course. Was this not a retelling, I'd not have finished it. And spending time with him sparked so much joy especially as he never lost himself even as we're told he's changing. The grief and the PTSD that the book spends a great deal of time fleshing out is very well portrayed. The way Wendy's memory worked and her slow but steady progress towards healing was my favorite part. Watching her unravel and find herself again as she processed her grief by far made this book worth the read.

But that's really all there was. I had several issues with the book too. In particular, the writing and the setting.
