if i'm going to be completely honest, this book threw me for a loop at the get-go. starting the entire book off with smut, honestly surprised me as i've never seen it before.
throughout the first 3/4 of the book, i REALLY liked maria. however, toward the last forth of the book, she really made me not like her. i understand that she has some relational trauma and trust issues. but like, come on, take someone else's thoughts and feelings into consideration. peter wanting to take a role that would help him in maintaining something that he bought himself (to show his accomplishment) is completely justified. he even came with ways that they could keep in contact and see each other. but, maria just didn't get that. she could stand the idea of him being away for three years because, she would "get too lonely". maybe she could try to you know, branch out and get some friends separate from the cast. also, they could have even made the idea where she moves up there with him for filming. i don't know just irks me.
besides that, i really enjoyed her character. i especially liked how she advocated for both women's rights and body positivity in an industry that is typically so unkind to both matters, (and one i'd love to go into, if given the opportunity.) it really made me feel represented in the book, especially because typically, in romantic novels, the female interest/lead/whatever is seen as a skinny woman with slightly bigger that average breasts, making me feel as though i couldn't find love or a lover if i didn't look that way.
on another - very far off - note, the smut was pretty good. i did find more often than not that i was more shocked (and expecting expansion) on the various little mentions of instances that occurred and not really getting too into the actual times they do it.
something that was also extremely interesting for me is that i didn't find myself getting attached to these characters like i usually do in other books. i liked them, don't get me wrong but neither maria nor peter were very graviting for me.
overall, a good book but not one i'm yearning to reread any time soon.
