Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center
5.0
Everything Katherine Center writes is filled with heart and inspiration.
Honestly I think this book has one of my favorite female main characters I’ve ever read because of her strength and unwillingness to take crap from anyone. I also personally loved how Cassie wasn’t perfect – she had her own traumas to work through and didn’t have healthy ways to manage them, but she did her best at every juncture to make the right decisions. I loved her journey to find herself when she didn’t even realize she needed to.
This is only my second book by Katherine Center but I’m excited to read through her entire backlist.
If you’re looking for a badass FMC, an inspiring story, a phenomenal firefighter, and a story about forgiveness, look no further!
“Choosing to love despite all the ways that people let you down, and disappear, and break your heart. Knowing everything we know about how hard life is and choosing to love, anyway ... that’s not weakness, that’s courage.”
TW: sexual assault, loss of a parent, child abandonment
Tropes:
- Instant attraction
- Friends to lovers
- Caring for family
- He falls first
- Found family
