Trigger Warnings - rape, domestic abuse, assaults', incest, cancer


This story was a clusterfuck and I did not like it. Trigger warnings above and spoilers below. 

So, basically the main character grew up with only her father around and he dies while she's across the country in Los Angeles while she's at art school. He dies as a result of a heart attack because the man his daughter (the main character) is engaged to, just broke off his engagement with news that he has married someone else and that someone else is already pregnant. So, the main character's father dies. 

The main character gets notice from the bank that she's expected to pay back her father's loan of $500,000 in three months or lose the family farm, obviously this would be hard to do so she's very upset. Then Mr. D shows up, and he offers the main character a deal. Marry him and stay married for 1 year and then divorce after that time period and he'll give her the money to keep her family's farm. She agrees and marries him 1 week later.

After the wedding we get some flashbacks. We basically find out that Mr. D raped the main character's mother before she was born and therefore he believes that he might be her father. Yes, the guy who just married the main character thinks he's her father. 

The main character gets assaulted by her ex fiancé at the wedding. Then the main character's ex fiancé rapes her at a party a few weeks later and she becomes pregnant. Then we get this pro life speech and she announces that she's going to keep the fetus. This is the part of the manga where Mr. D admits to the main character that he raped her mother and he might be her father. 

They divorce. Mr. D announces that he has a cancerous tumor. He gets treatment and recovers. He gets a blood test and finds out that he's not the main character's father. He asks the main character to marry him again. They live happily ever after....

The writing was so bad, I'm disappointed because I love Nalini Singh's paranormal romance novels but this was just awful. The art couldn't save this story from being higher than a 1 star, and the art is stunning.
