Camouflage: The Hidden Lives of Autistic Women by Sarah Bargiela
I had only seen the cover of this book when it was recommended on IG and was surprised when my hold came in that it was a thing graphic book! It informs the reader about girls and women with Autism, and their experiences in the world are different from those of Autistic boys and men. I found it very informative and easy to digest and think everyone should read it! The author includes stories from multiple Autistic women as well as research studies, etc.
2025 reread: I've slowly been doing research lately because I know I have a sensory processing disorder and wanted to know more about them, and those often go hand in hand with autism in women so I widened my search. I read this once a few years ago and thought it was absolutely great, but it's from 2019 and some of the newer info I've read/learned made some of the outdated things here stick out (specifically around Asperger's since it's no longer a seperate diagnosis and turns out what's his face Asperger was a Nazi sympathizer). I still think it's interesting more as a sort of case study of four specific autistic women, and the illustrated medium would probably be helpful to some people. But overall it was just okay and I was glad it was short as far as using my time.
