Murder mystery set in Jazz Age Harlem. I'm somewhat ambivalent about murder mysteries anyway, especially when it's a lot of female victims, so it was a bit of a hard sell for me in the first place, and was basically in it for the lesbian heroine. Then I found the prose somewhat dull and workmanlike, and the setting lacking in the vividness I'd expect from a Jazz Age book. Finally, the narrator flat out told me who did it, and I put the book down and stared into the distance for a while, before picking it up again to check the end to see if it was a red herring. It was not. I'm very confused about all this.
