Holding Pattern by Jenny Xie

3.0

I tried so hard to enjoy this book but tbh, there were times when I'm so close to dnf-ing this.

Holding Pattern is a literary fiction following the story of Kathleen and her mother, Marissa, as Kathleen found herself dealing with a breakup and coming baxk home to prepare for Marissa's second wedding.

This is a quiet slice of life novel. This combination usually works with my taste but this one was too uneventful that it felt too dragging at some point.

I like how the novel started with Kathleen's POV as she retraced her steps with her mom and the overall discussion about mother-daughter relationship is one of the elements that I enjoyed.

Another thing that I liked is the exploration about Kathleen's lovelife after her breakup with Oren. I liked how Kathleen and Phil (new love interest) concluded their story.

Overall, I can see this appealing with certain readers but sadly it didn't work for me. It's less than 300 pages (274) but it felt too long.
