Wolf Road by Alice Roberts
3.5
Actual rating 3.5/5
Overall a solid book, but also not very memorable.
Bullet review:
+Likable and well-rounded characters, particularly our main three of Tuuli, Wren and Andar.
+Despite the book featuring some repetitive scenarios (hunts and meetings with Andar and traveling), it keeps itself feeling fresh and new and never truly feels stale.
+I liked most of the character interactions.
+A strong and emotional climax.
+The book has strong female characters and is pretty much devoid of sexism, which seems to be a rarity in fiction about prehistoric people.
-The book is very light on plot and there doesn't seem to be much of a proactive goal to the story until after the climax. It's mostly just a series of events happening to our main characters and while for me this wasn't a huge issue, I can see it putting off other readers who are looking for a little bit more to the story.
-Lupa was a bit underutilized and is mostly there to be the main character's pet. But since the book so heavily advertises her (in the title and on the cover) this was a bit disappointing, especially to me as a wolf lover.
